I’m Jimo, also known as James Ives in the real life world. I am an English Hardcore DJ originally from Molesey in England. I
lived in Molesey my whole life until February 2010 where I relocated to Anchorage in Alaska USA. I primarily play Hardcore
but I have been known to give anything that sounds good a try.
How did this all begin for you?
Thats a good question actually. In 1995 when I was 5 years of age I often overheard MTV on the television, at the time songs such as Born Slippy, Children and many more fantastic tracks were circulating around radio and television. Of course at the age of 5 I didn’t remember these songs because of there names, but because of the music exclusivly. As I matured in age the songs were still in my head, I would often try and explain the music to people to try and get the names of the songs which I remember as a toddler. Until one day in 1997 I was listening to Kiss 100 FM and the song came on. The song which has stuck in my head over the rest of them was a song called “Children” by Robert Miles, a masterpiece and a classic Trance song originally released in 1995 on Platipus. Children was a phenominal song which had such a unique sound to it, and it really intrigued me at the time. After that I wanted to seek out similar sounding songs, eventually I figured out that the genre was Trance, commonly misrepresented as Techno. As the years went by and I started growing up I found a vinyl for a song called Pilgrim 2000 in the new releases section of a record store. That was my first taste of Hardcore, and man, what a good way to start the journey! As the years progressed I kept searching for new sounds, eventually discovering Hard Trance in 2001 when my friend Benjamin from school recorded a casette of Be Cool by Paffendorf. In 2002 I got my first set of turntables, the Pioneer CDJ-800s, and that’s where the journey began. Years down the line I’ve acquired a specific taste for all forms of Hardcore, but I have been known to mess around with other genres a bit as well. With the help of fellow DJ, Robert Marro (Roflz) I’ve been learning how to produce my own tracks to weave into my sets. It’s something which I have been learning how to do for a while now, but things are finally starting to time form. The future is looking bright, and hopefully you can all be part of it.
What the hell does Jimo even mean?
I used to go by the name Jim, which is short for James. Jimo is Jim with an added o because it sounds better and it’s unique! It’s pronounced Jim-oh, but all the Swedish people call me Jeemo, why? I have no idea.
What is your favourite DJ set and song?
My favourite song is probably “This Is How We Do It” by Scott Brown and my favourite DJ set I’ve ever heard is Armin van Buurens Sensation White 2005 set, which you can hear right here!
